Promotion. Marketing. Public Relations. These words don't always resonate with small businesses as they only seem to focus on working, in the business, looking after clients' needs, rather than, on the business, promoting themselves to the general public. However, there is a fine balance but ignoring this area of promotion, marketing, and public relations now puts your business at considerable future risk. It can affect future cash flow and for any business, that's the start of a downward spiral that's hard to pull out of.

As Lifestyle Financial Planners. Imagine for a moment the position of a would-be client considering our service offering. What research will they do before they come along to meet us?

At the very least as business owners you can expect new prospects to have done a Google search on you, your business, checked out your website and read other searches they pulled up from networking and other sites and maybe looked you up on social media too. You might be surprised to find that existing clients regularly look you up too, so what will they find?

Is it positive? Is it impressive? Do you know? Have you checked?

According to Mike Robertson, MD at Mike Robertson Associates Limited (MRA), who are specialists in Lifestyle Financial Planning "Client engagement is more important than ever before," he said. "Clients expect an increasingly bespoke service and, with economic pressures continuing, will only select a business that they feel is absolutely right for them and their circumstances.

It is therefore essential they know your business exists (the days of clients simply looking through the Yellow Pages have long-gone) and that they like and are impressed by what they find."

It is also essential that businesses embrace social media platforms as a communications channel says Mike. "We don't live in a 24-hour news society any more, we live in a Nano-second news society".

Potential clients are all over outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and it is essential that if you run a business you are too.

So how can MRA help you?

At MRA, after knowing your financial facts, we can work with you to potentially achieve your future financial goals. We assist individuals, corporates, small business and the self-employed. We can support you to understand your future financial journey and supply an economic destination plan. This could incorporate such things as tax and cash flow management for your present financial position, your life and your business. Working with you to understand the new destination plan could change your family's life, and if you are a business owner could increase income, potential cash flow and turnover allowing your business to grow.
